November
1,1995 Guideline's Revision: Terms Defined
Effective
November 1, 1995 , the federal guidelines were amended to include definitions
of "hashish" and "hashish oil." The definitions rely
on a checklist scheme examining which discrete psychoactive constituents
are found in the substance under examination and whether it contains "plant
material"
As
defined under the new provisions, "hashish means:
a
resinous substance of Cannabis that includes (i) one or more
of the tetrahydrocannabinols . . ., (ii) at least two of the following:
cannabinol,cannabidiol,orcannabichromene,and (iii) fragments of plant
material (such as cy stolith fibers.) (Sec. 2Dl[c], as revised.)
"Hashish
oil," is defined as:
A
preparation of the soluble cannabinoids derived from Can-nabis that
includes (i) one or more of the tetrahydrocannabinols . . . and (ii)
at least two of the following: cannabinol, cannabidiol, or cannabichromene,
and (iii) is essentially free of plant material (e .g., plant fragments.)
Typically, hashish oil is viscous, dark colored oil, but it can vary from
a dry resin to a colorless liquid. (Sec. 2Dl[c], as revised.)
In
short, all other things being equal, the guidelines view hashish oil as
a iquid version of hashish, the difference between the two being the absence
of »lant material in hashish oil.
